Japanese Genmaicha tea
"Genmai" means brown rice, "cha" means tea in Japanese. According to Japanese legend, in the 15th century, a tea server accidentally dropped a few grains of brown rice while serving tea to warriors at a teahouse reserved only for samurai warriors. The blend of green tea and roasted brown rice brings a different flavor, while the fatty taste from brown rice balances the bitter taste of green tea and Genmaicha was named for this combination.
The combination of Japanese green tea and brown rice creates a cup of tea with the fresh aroma mixed with the nutty scent of roasted brown rice creating a full flavor. Matcha powder could be added to enhance the aroma and colour.
The tea can be made with a hot tea cup or a cold tea bottle which could be kept in the fridge to highlight the aroma and fatty, sweet taste of brown rice.
